James holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in physics from the University of Edinburgh. He has a background in computational biophysics and a strong interest in computer simulation and high performance computing.
Before joining Enthought, James developed large scale simulations of protein-DNA systems using methods from statistical physics and polymer physics, which were used to investigate the 3D structure of human chromosomes. To make this data more accessible to biologist collaborators, James developed data analysis programs for use with the molecular dynamics simulation data and created user friendly interfaces to simulation codes.
Outside of work, James enjoys playing football and computer games, though not computer games about football for some reason!
